Malnutrition treatment

Each year, we treat approximately 400 cases of malnutrition in the region. Our clinical and nursing teams, along with county nutritionists, conduct weekly outreach visits to villages, providing free medical services and counselling. To treat malnutrition, we use a specialised food called RUTF (Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food), a nutrient-dense paste made from peanuts, sugar, milk powder, oil, vitamins, and minerals. The food, provided by the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA), has proven highly effective in treating severe malnutrition in children, the most dangerous form of malnutrition.

HIV and COVID

In the past 20 years, AMC has enrolled over 1,700 HIV patients, with 600 currently on antiretrovirals. In 2019, we prepared for COVID-19 by building an isolation ward. Fortunately, the pandemic impacted our region lightly, with only 20 cases treated and 2 lives lost. AMC is well-equipped to handle future pandemic cases if necessary.
